Twisted Nietzsche

with Brian Massumi

Tanzquartier Wien, Vienna (Austria), November 26-29 2016

ABSTRACT

In constructing a large möbius strip out of paper, Brian Massumi and Erin Manning each started cutting a continuous band from different edges of the möbius strip. Quotes from Nietzsches Late Notebooks were written on the strip following the bands. As they cut, they read the quotes. In the course of the cutting, both passed each other in the middle and continued around the band, snaking around the space, cutting strip after strip. At the end, the strip became a very complex, interwoven web that they then mounted across the space like a spider’s web — a kind of Ariadne’s thread of words.
